The following are some of the major services and projects of the NSW Ecumenical Council - representing key concerns in the prayer and work of Churches Together in NSW and the ACT. Please check out the link pages for more information.

House of Welcome
The House of Welcome is the Refugee Project of the NSW Ecumenical Council which provides support and services to asylum seekers living in the community without work rights or access to social services.

In October 1999, the Howard Government introduced a system of Temporary Protection Visas (TPVs) which denied access to many of the services available to people with Permanent Protection Visas, including assistance with settlement in the community. The House of Welcome was established in 2002 by the NSW Ecumenical Council to provide assistance to Refugees released from detention centres on a three-year Temporary Protection Visas (TPV).

Taize Pilgrimage
Over several years the NSW Ecumenical Council has hosted visits from a Brother from the Taize Community in France, as part of our churches' common commitment to a spirituality of peace and reconciliation.

This relationship takes different forms from year to year: including special events in schools, churches, quiet days and retreats, and conversations with people of all kinds of different backgrounds.   Always the intention is not to create a TaizĂ© movement here but to enable seeds of hope to be planted which may encourage Australians to share the kind of 'pilgrimage of trust' in Christ for which the TaizĂ© community prays and lives out daily.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
Each year the NSW Ecumenical Council encourages Christians to join together in special prayers for Christian Unity in the 8 days leading up to and including Pentecost. 2010 marks the 100th anniversary of the Edinburgh International Misisonary Conference once of the landmarks of the beginnings of the modern ecumenical movement - so this is a great year to renew this commitment!
Make Indigenous Poverty History
As part of its long-term commitment to Reconciliation and justice for Indigenous Australians, the NSW Ecumenical Council is an active supporter of the Make Indigenous Poverty History campaign, run by NATSIEC (the National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Ecumenical Commisison of the NCCA)
Churches Community Housing Ltd
Churches Community Housing Limited (CCHL) is an "A" Grade registered organisation with the Office of Community Housing and accredited under the National Community Housing Standards. CCHL has extensive experience in the provision of supported housing with more than 20 formal support partnerships in place and has a reputation for continuous improvement and for developing best-practice standards of service and organisation.
Christmas Bowl
Due to operational changes made by the National Council of Churches in Australia, the NSW Ecumenical Council is sadly no longer a partner in the promotion of the Christmas Bowl or other activities of Act for Peace. If you have any enquiries about this work please contact the NCCA/Act for Peace directly on (02) 9299 2215
